Make a Splash on Facebook

Byline: Andrew McKenzie

Does the standard design of a Facebook page leave you uninspired? Wish you could have a Facebook page that gave prospective families a better feel for the character and mission of your school? We have some good news!

The good news is that Facebook now lets you build a Welcome Page with custom graphics, deep links to within your website, slideshows, pretty much anything that a web designer can dream up can be put on this page.

A few examples:
Palma High School - Beautiful!
Stevenson School - Vibrant, with clear paths to action
Sony - Like to unlock content
Dennys - The video really isn't all that funny

Some basics:

  • Facebook URL - First, if you haven't already, you should reserve your URL so that your school's Facebook landing page URL looks something like this - facebook.com/yourschool.
  • Welcome Page - A Facebook homepage with custom graphics
  • Default Tab - You can set the page that people end up on when they go to your page to be the How To - Technically it's pretty simple to do if you know how iFrames work and are a great graphic designer. Here are some instructions on how to do it yourself.

Next steps:
We expect that many schools who are using Facebook to reach prospective families and alumni to begin using Welcome Pages. It's always a good idea to first decide who you are trying to reach and what actions you want them to take. Silverpoint can help you achieve your vision in all aspects of this - consulting, design, implementation - or any one of the three. Just give us a call or submit a support case for a consultation and an estimate.
