If you’re looking for an example of a site that fits the fundamental nature of a school, the website Silverpoint launched for Sandia Prep, a 6-12 day school in Albuquerque, NM is about as good as it gets.
The earth tones of the Southwest palette, combined with colorful photography and textured treatments throughout, give the site an immediate sense of place and geography. More importantly, the site manages to pull off a small miracle, which is to satisfy the whimsical undercurrent of an SP experience (which 6th graders want to see) while also appealing to the academic rigor true to its mission (which 6th grade parents want to affirm). The “Student Experience” section and the logo “reveal” at the top both bring a sense of energy and artistic freedom to the design that speak to students and parents alike who want to see a well-rounded education.
Beyond aesthetic, the nuts and bolts of the site work well. Calendars are synched with inTandem calendars, funneling 40+ categories into a dozen or so usable categories on the front end. SchoolSuite’s CMS makes it easy to update news, homepage alerts, page content and more. Teachers take advantage of Silverpoint’s Class Pages for posting homework and class information, while a full faculty, student and parent directory, with data from Rediker and RaisersEdge, provides essential information users need. Authentication is simplified with Active Directory integration.
All this in how long? Just three months, start to finish!
